hi

i added a filed called region to the opportunity module
i want to create a workflow that check on save the region filed and add the $region_manager security group to the record

is it possible ?

Yes I think so.

Try a Workflow. Adding a security group is, technically, setting a relationship to the security group record. Workflows can do that.
