Exchange 2012

Does anyone know or has anyone had success getting SuiteCRM to work in any way with exchange 2012.
We have been trying for weeks with no luck.
We even put Thunderbird on the internal network but TB needed an Exchange Plugin to even think about working.

Is this simply for emails? If you set up a mail server, this should work but it could be that there are issues between the CRM and Exchange.

It is really Exchange 2013 Premise

This is only for Admin SMTP - that is all they plan to use.
Thunderbird Client needed a plugin to work
A DOS Telnet test (With a user Id) did seem to work.
Suite returns some type of php mal formed header info
