AOP - can't install Portal Joomla extension

Hello,
I installed Joomla 3.9.6. When trying to install Portal extension 2.0.1 I got this message:

JInstaller: :Install: Can’t find XML setup file.
Joomla\CMS\Filesystem\Folder::create: Could not create folder.Path: /var/www/html/portal/administrator/components/com_advancedopenportal
Component Update: Failed to create folder: /var/www/html/portal/components/com_advancedopenportal.

Looks like there is version issue? If that is the issue, what is recommended Joomla version?

Yes, exactly the same missing xml issue. Although xml file is there. I tried a few different versions of Joomla too, couldn’t get it to install the extension.
